ESS is seeking an experienced Site Lean Leader to support the manufacturing and assembly of cutting-edge technology flow batteries. You will lead the development and deployment of a plant-wide lean culture including lean process development, lean training, problem-solving, and visual management. You will partner with the site leadership team to establish an improvement strategy which drives safety, quality improvement, lead time reduction, and cost reductions in line with business objectives. You will have everyone asking themselves, “How can we do this better?”

This is a newly created role due to company growth, and will be based at our corporate HQ and manufacturing facility in Wilsonville, Oregon.

What you’ll do at ESS.

  • Champion change across the organization to foster the growth in Lean culture.
  • Establish and implement strategies, programs, and practices to achieve lean business system adoption at our Wilsonville, OR facility.
  • Establish and implement strategies, programs, and practices to achieve lean business system adoption at the facility.
  • Drive measurable improvements within the business.
  • Facilitate kaizen events that are aligned with the achievement of the site level metrics.
  • Partner with operating teams to uncover and assess continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Bring new ideas, motivation, and positive support to all levels of the team.
  • Identify, process map, analyze, and execute impact projects using lean tools that result in significant process improvements.

What you bring to the table.

Minimum requirements:

  • 5 years of experience implementing lean and changing culture in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities to influence and drive change.
  • A track record of leading cost and cycle reduction, lean project success.
  • An ability to partner with production teams to implement lean methodologies, continuous improvement tools, and practices including daily management, visual controls and standard work.
  • The ability to drive improvement strategies while coaching teams through problem solving techniques.
  • The ability to analyze problems, identify root causes and provide efficient solutions.

We’d love to see:

  • Experience within fuel cell, power storage, automotive or other closely related manufacturing environment.
  • Experience where automation complements hand assembly.
  • Project management and/or Six Sigma certifications (PMI, PMP, Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt)
  • Knowledge of fluid transfer systems, electronic systems, and industrial automation systems.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or another technical field.
