ESS is looking for an exceptional Battery Test Engineer to join our system integration engineering team. This person is responsible for testing and validating performances of our battery stacks which are a central component to our overall energy storage systems.

This is a hands-on, on-site test engineering role based at our HQ and manufacturing facility in Wilsonville, Oregon.

What you’ll do at ESS.

  • Plan and conduct stack testing, and monitor battery performance daily
  • Analyze, summarize, and report battery testing data regularly
  • Manage and maintain test fixture mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems to ensure consistent experimental conditions
  • Train and mentor associate engineers
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and battery performance diagnostic
  • Coordinate with other departments in battery scaleup operations
  • Designing and validating new test fixtures

What you bring to the table.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of wet chemistry, electrochemistry, and batteries
  • Experience working in a wet-chemistry lab
  • Comfortable working with chemicals, including acid and base
  • Comfortable working with electronics such as battery testing instruments

We’d love to see:

  • Experience with battery or fuel cell testing
  • 3+ years of experience
