What You’ll Do:  

As the Senior Vice President of Engineering, you will be leading and casting your strategic vision for the Bigleaf Engineering Team that delivers products and operates our service platform to serve our customers. You will drive the architecture, strategy, and team structure that allows us to accomplish our lofty strategic goals. While leading development and technical operations, you will also work directly with the Product Management, UX, and Support teams to drive forward critical strategic needs, as well as, day to day operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and coach a world-class software development team composed of engineers and architects that are directly responsible for delivering and driving Bigleaf’s innovations.
  • Engineering vision and strategy – Collaborate with the CEO, CPO, and other stakeholders in creating and delivering on a clear, convincing technical strategy and engineering roadmap that enable significant innovations and reliability of our services.
  • Lead the operations of our service platform, including our cloud-based services and our owned-and-operated Cloud Access Network. You’ll solidify and scale our technical operations team as company needs grow, ensuring we meet or exceed SLAs, and that we deliver service that our customers trust and can rely on.
  • Collaboration and goal management across the engineering organization – collaborate across multiple functions to align on annual goals (currently OKRs) and shorter-term execution plans. Key to scaling success in this aspect will be effectively delivering features on a reliable cadence and on-time.
  • Technical Execution - build our products to scale nationally and globally across multiple markets - Serving thousands of businesses and partners. Efforts you’ll foster here will include scaling planning, QA and testing, and guidance of how to integrate new technologies.
  • Team Leadership and Coaching – Build, manage, lead, and coach the engineering teams and inspire leaders and individual contributors to deliver against high priority goals. In partnership with our wonderful People team, bring the best out of each of your team members, ensuring they’re healthy and given an environment where they can be successful.
  • Ongoing technical reviews and planning - Drive ongoing product and technology reviews and strategic planning in conjunction with product leaders and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of software engineering and technology experience with 5+ years of leadership experience (e.g. VP of Engineering or similar) in high-growth environments
  • Experience building and scaling high growth software engineering and architecture teams
  • Excellent ability to navigate and translate between strategic organizational needs and goals, and the unique leadership needs and realities of software engineering and infrastructure operations
  • Strong technical basis to quickly assess system architectures and technologies, development methodologies, and tools to run a high-velocity software development organization
  • Proven ability to deliver products that serve as critical infrastructure to thousands of businesses and tens of thousands of users
  • Deep understanding of networking technologies and architectures, with significant experience in Linux and knowledge of the Linux networking subsystem
  • Experience with a wide range of programming languages, algorithms, data structures, and deployment mediums
  • Experience building and defining long term strategic technical vision that includes system architecture
