Course Design & Faculty Support Lead: Math at Lumen Learning

The Course Design & Faculty Support Lead actively participates in building, evaluating, and enhancing Lumen’s Math courses and is the primary point of contact for Lumen’s faculty customers, and provides support and development in the use of Lumen’s Math products.

Position Objective

Collaboratively enhance and build Lumen Math courses, and provide remarkable support to Lumen’s customers to ensure faculty members are highly successful in adopting and using the company’s Waymaker and Candela solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Using Lumen’s course design process, tools and templates, enhance and participate in the creation of open courseware that supports consistent, effective student learning.
Enhancement – work with existing courses on: licensing review, editorial work, mapping and aligning outcomes to all components of the course, and identifying existing OER interactives.
Building – drive the creation of content, assessments, and pedagogical activities. Assist in assembling content, adding a consistent voice to the resources, identifying images, interactives, and working with instructional designers to bring all pieces into a cohesive and well-aligned course.
Through our customer service platform, act as a support resource for faculty members
Providing timely response to all requests and questions, and timely resolution of issues
Demonstrate empathy, understanding the challenges of the faculty member and supporting each faculty member to do their best teaching
Train and educate faculty members in the use of open courseware that supports effective teaching and learning
Contribute to the creation of training materials to educate faculty on using our courseware
Deliver training materials to faculty, either remotely, or in a face to face workshop experience

The position may require occasional travel
Position Requirements


A Bachelor’s degree – Math or related. Master’s degree preferred.
A high level of proficiency in one of the primary disciplines gained through educational or work experience
Experience providing faculty support, faculty training, and/or instructional design
Experience using technology and the ability to use new programs and e-learning tools (e.g., MyOpenMath, WordPress, Google docs)
Experience using web conferencing tools (e.g., Google Hangouts, WebEx)
Exceptional interpersonal communication skills that make people love you and want to work with you more
The ability to hear, understand, analyze and address issues
The ability and temperament to guide and support improved teaching and learning by faculty members (even those who are grumpy, resistant to change, overworked or just done with it all)
A compulsion to resolve issues, tie off loose ends, and genuinely help
