Lead Manufacturing Technician at ESS

Position Profile
ESS is looking for a motivated, hard-working Lead Manufacturing Technician to join our
production team. The production team is charged with the delivery of complex systems,
on time with the defined product quality. This person is responsible for integrating
plumbing, electrical, and mechanical subassemblies of battery systems, while leading a
team of similarly talented employees.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for sustainability and the environment, will thrive

disruptive, cutting edge technology. The ideal candidate is someone who understands
the culture, the rigor and the challenges of a start-up environment.

• Responsible for the team of electrical and mechanical technicians regarding
schedule priority and quality, while working alongside them in a build-in-place or
pit stop style setting.
• Determines and/or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing
wiring, component installation, hand soldering and cable harnessing on assembly
• Assemble and leak check plastic plumbing assemblies
• Install electrical conduit and junction boxes.
• Layout and wire electrical panels.
• Responsible for the safe and efficient assembly of battery modules and other
electrochemical devices in a high quality and repeatable manner.
• Work with engineers to improve battery assembly process and quality.
• Set up, operate and maintain test equipment to evaluate performance of
assemblies and record results.
• Operate drill press, grinders, engine lathe, or other machines to fabricate jigs,
fixtures and mountings to improve stack assembly manufacturing process.
• Perform in-process QC inspections to ensure the quality of the work performed
and the functionality of the component and/or module.
• Maintain production and test equipment.
• Handle common industrial chemicals safely.
• Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from
which answers can be readily obtained.

• Typically requires 5-10 years of related experience, or a combination of
education, training and experience that demonstrate the required skills.
• Experience with high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Worked in build-in-place capital equipment environment where many
components were assembled into an enclosure.
• Able to safely lift and manipulate 35 pounds.
• Superior hand/eye coordination.
• Familiar with data entry and has used Excel.
• Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions
• Ability to plan work and track progress in a variety of electronic and written
• Experience in collecting manufacturing data and reporting against metrics.
• Detailed note taker with attention to detail.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a small,
dynamic team.
• Ability to use a variety of small hand tools.
• U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency.
