Role: Molecular Biology Scientist

Location: Eugene, OR 

Overview: 

Working as part of our Research & Development team, this role’s principal focus is to deliver the necessary biological constructs, such as plasmids, to downstream teams for the creation and ultimate analysis of transgenic C elegans and Zebrafish.  The incumbent will oversee most of the day to day lab activities including scheduling, daily/weekly prioritization, data collection, reprocessing, training, development of and adherence to SOPs, maintenance requests, and related activities.

What You’ll be Doing: 

  • Designing and generating constructs for CRISPR mediated insertion of disease relevant genetic mutations, transgenic reporters and protein tags into model organisms, primarily Zebrafish.
  • Applying standard and advanced molecular biology techniques for detecting precise edits in vivo (insertion & integration). 
  • Generation and propagation of de novo genome edited animals.  
  • Identifying and troubleshooting innovative technologies to validate design and capture integration events.

Required Qualifications: 

  • PhD in Molecular Biology or a related field; Or BS or MS with 8+ years of experience.
  • Hands on experience with CRISPR genome editing methodologies, specifically with zebrafish.
  • Demonstrated success with site directed mutagenesis and homology driven repair.
  • Functional knowledge of advanced homology based cloning methods such as Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate or Infusion.
  • Proficient in standard molecular and biochemistry analysis. 
  • Ability to design and build plasmids and transgenic constructs.
  • In-vitro transcription and RNA purification.
  • DNA and RNA Sequence Analysis.
  • Zebrafish Husbandry and Genotyping experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Morpholino design and microinjection 
  • Familiarity with the tol2 transposon system
  • Molecular Phenotyping using qPCR analysis
  • Experience with Western Blotting, specifically in Zebrafish
  • Ability to design and interpret High Resolution Melting (HRM) analyses
  • Clinical Genetics experience
